‘Gospel musicians can run gospel music channel’
Uchechi Mirabel Ani is a praise and worship leader in her local assembly under the Christ Embassy Church also known as Believers Love World International Church. Mirabel who started singing in the choir as a child in this interview with DAYO EMMANUEL is worried there is no dedicated channel for gospel music in Nigeria. She also talked about her new album which she has been promoting. According to her, worship is a weapon and it should please God while the worshiper should also enjoy it. Excerpts:
You’ve been promoting your music lately, how is the acceptance in the society?
Since release of my new song/promotion of my music, the acceptance and testimonies have been so overwhelming; I give God all the praise. I just released a new single titled ONYEMMERI (Victorious One) also and the acceptance is good.
In your own opinion, who should enjoy worship between God and man?
In as much as our Worship should please and make God happy… Man should enjoy, be so excited to worship God because your worship is your weapon… It is your access to God’s heart and real conversation time with God Almighty is in your moments of Worship.
I realise that there is no dedicated gospel music channel in Nigeria, don’t you think gospel artistes should come together to float one and how possible?
It is very much possible for Gospel Artists in Nigeria to come together to float one gospel Channel in Nigeria. Take for instance, everyone want their music video on trace gospel(including MIRABEL). What am I saying… We can build!
Can you refresh us briefly on how you began in the gospel music ministry?
I have been ministering in songs as a little girl from age 11 with my local church band but Started Music professionally five years ago after my campus Pastor spoke to me 11-12 years ago about discovering my calling. He said start putting those Spirit filled songs coming to you, that is God calling you to ministry.
What can you call your challenges in the industry?
The challenges in music industry (gospel) basically is that there is no support for ministers. Thank God for the likes of Rev Dr. Chris Oyhakilome who God used and still using to promote gospel music and inspire and encourage gospel artists all over the world. Also some other Men of God, Pastors who invite gospel Artists to their programs /events… God bless them all. I think Christians in the media need to do more to support the gospel.
Can you briefly advise church leaders on positioning gospel music properly in Nigeria?
My advice to church leaders at a time like this is to be very deliberate about supporting music ministers because God has ordained music ministers as helpers of the work (The gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ). Let’s be wise it is time to support in every little way you can.
