Barnksforte CEO charges Nigerians to protect their data

Adedayo Bankole, Chief Executive Officer of Barnksforte, has emphasized the importance of data protection for Nigerians.

During the National Day of Identity 2024 event held recently in Abuja, he pointed out that criminals are always seeking opportunities to steal personal information for nefarious purposes.

Bankole acknowledged that cybercrime is a worldwide challenge, but he reassured attendees that measures are being taken to implement best practices in data transmission and processing.

He highlighted the creation of data protection laws aimed at enforcing stringent protocols for data handling, ensuring that the highest industry standards are upheld.

“There’s more scrutiny and more technology being deployed to make sure that a lot of data is being protected. So if you look into the modification systems, you will find out that we make sure that we verify the ownership of the data in order not to allow someone else to use your data.

“To be honest with you, it’s a lot of effort. The criminals are out there. Criminals want to use your data to do a lot of things and we are working so hard to make sure we put the protection in place.”

President Bola Tinubu during the event, said that unique proof of identity is essential to provide necessary welfare services to citizens in line with their fundamental human rights.

Tinubu  noted that without accurate identification, the government’s ability to effectively protect and provide for its people will remain a challenge.

The President, who was represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, said, “DPI is the backbone that enables access to essential services, from healthcare and education to financial inclusion and social welfare.

“It is through robust DPI that we can ensure every Nigerian, regardless of their background or location, has the opportunity to participate fully in our nation’s growth.

“Our administration’s 8-point agenda, which includes food security, ending poverty, economic growth and job creation, access to capital, improving security, enhancing the business environment, upholding the rule of law, and fighting corruption, is intrinsically linked to the success of our digital identity initiatives.
